Frequently Asked Questions
Strava gets your average speed for different gradients & distances, your routes and times, then sprinkles some magic on that data so that you discover others with similar stats.
Yes, you need at least one ride before you start getting suggestions.
None of your private data is revealed to anyone on StravaSocial. Only your contact information will be shared after you accept their RideMate request, or they accept your RideMate request.
You can go through their profile to check past activities and give them a call before riding together. It is recommended that you inform your friends/family before meeting someone for the first time.
You have an option to report a user in case of any misdemeanors.
The recommendations for free users will be limited to 2 people per week, while the premium users do not have such limit.
You can start riding in your new city and you will be able to discover cyclists from that that city. You will not see people from your old city unless you move back.
If you do not want to meet new people, you can simply turn off the feature, and neither will you get any suggestions, nor will you be recommended.
Apart from being able to turn on/off the three primary parameters - Speed, Route and Time, you can also filter the discovery by Age and Gender.

I used to ride with a friend who was much slower. StravaSocial would've been very helpful then as we both would've found other cyclists matching our pace. This makes discovering people easy and quick. I don't have to waste my time for it, thus I can focus my attention on cycling more!
